taking a step back…

So I thought I would take a brief moment to share some beautiful shots of one of my favorite things and simple pleasures in life – FLOWERS! 🙂 These are photos of arrangements that have been lovingly placed in our home in the past few weeks. One of my guilty pleasures is always having fresh flowers in the house. Tanner sometimes surprises me with a bouquet every now and then…but the majority of the time it’s me picking up arrangements at the grocery store, or from Prairie Petals located in downtown Fargo.

There is just something about the look and smell of fresh flowers! After our wedding, my mom and a friend placed arrangements from our big day all over our home. I took a few arrangements for our lake cabin as well. It was so awesome to have all of my favorite flowers everywhere I went! Peonies, cabbage and garden roses, hydrangeas, ranunculus, fresh sage and lavender…ahh it was heaven.

The last few weeks have been super busy for me. Besides working on “Lindsay Arneson Creative” projects and photography, I have a full time job. I also volunteer at multiple non-profit organizations in the FM community. I have to give my husband (and my mom!) lots of credit for putting up with my (sometimes out of control) attitude as I run from one thing to the next – all the while yelling, “I’M BUSY!!”.  😉

I’m not complaining – being busy is definitely a blessing! I’m one of those people that loves to have a million projects going on. I’m also very fortunate to have great friends who are always present – whether it’s helping me out with a project, lending an ear for a vent session or meeting for a much-needed happy hour drink. These are all positive people who I’m grateful to call my best friends and family…and who also remind me that what I’m working so hard for – is something I love.

I recently found this quote on a card at one of my favorite boutiques in downtown Fargo, ShannaLee:

“What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination, will affect everything. It will decide what gets you out of bed in the mornings, what you do with your evenings, how you spend your weekends, what you read, who you know, what breaks your heart, and what amazes you. Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything.”  – Pedro Arrupe

Many times when I’m trying to balance it all, I forget that designing and taking photos is something I love. I choose to be involved and busy. When owning your own small business – you’re constantly looking to the future. This can be good for a planner like myself, but often I forget to take a breath! I need to remember to take the time to step back – appreciate what I’ve done – and live in the present.

Recently, I had lunch with a good friend and we were discussing how every experience in life (good and bad) has led to this moment of now. We talked about past relationships, choices we made and how everything has somehow worked out for the best. At times it’s easy to get wrapped up in everything going on, most of which you can’t control. Again we all need to simply remember to take a moment to be in the present and appreciate everything that has led you here.

So….here’s to stopping (and taking the time) to smell the roses – or whatever flowers I brought home from Hornbachers, and be present….
