holidays, baking & the bison!

So….it’s been awhile since I’ve posted about what’s going on in the life of Lindsay! ๐Ÿ™‚ Here’s a recap up to the end of December. My goal for 2012 (among other things) is to be better about capturing my own life and events. I love taking photos of my clients and capturing their special moments – but when it comes to my own – the camera is often left behind. Not complaining – sometimes it’s nice to just be in the moment without worrying about getting the “perfect shot”.ย  However I love looking back every month and reminiscing on all of the events, special moments and life in general that flies by too fast….like sands through the hour glass. ๐Ÿ™‚

Any who – here is the month of December in a nutshell.

My husband and I braved the cold temps and did the traditional Christmas decorating.

We found the perfect Frasier fir at Bakers Nursery and hauled it home! I love having a real tree in the house – they smell wonderful! When we were growing up, my Dad would sell Christmas trees out of our garage! He is a farmer and it was a fun hobby for him to do in the winter months. I was pretty specific on the type of tree we had each year – thus the “picking of the tree” has now become a tradition of our own. Tanner usually let’s me pick the tree so I’m still getting my way after all of these years! ๐Ÿ˜‰

All decorated and ready for the holidays!!

I loved the holiday decor by our front door! I borrowed the trees from Prairie Petals. Every year I make it a mission to find the best tree top planters! If you askย  my husband- it’s a topic of dinner conversation nearly every night around the holidays – until they are bought and lovingly placed by our front door. Of course I have to add my own touch to them = lighted branches, dried hydrangeas, red berry branches, etc. I apologize for the dark photo – in the light they are very beautiful!

Our household consists of us, 3 dogs and a cat. You would think our worry with having a real tree would be the cat trying to climb to the top each year. Fortunately for us – she steers clear of the tree. Our biggest headache are our two Jack Russels who love to rip bows and ribbon off presents and drink the tree water. Disgusting and completely annoying! ๐Ÿ™‚ย  But we love them just the same.

I love decorating for the holidays! There is something about the glow of Christmas lights, cinnamon and spice scented candles burning and cozying up on the couch with hot chocolate and my two Jack Russels that is just the best!

However this year once New Years came and went, I was so excited to take everything down and put up more “springy” decor. Living in North Dakota – I shouldn’t do this to myself. I know that spring won’t roll around until April or May – if we’re lucky! However this year we’ve been having unseasonably mild temperatures and I’m loving it! So down went the glitter and lights!

Another tradition that I’ve kept from my childhood is holiday baking! Every year I find myself in the kitchen with my best girlfriends and my mom – whipping up peanut butter blossoms, chex mix and sugar cookies like it’s our job! But every year it never fails…the sugar cookies are a complete disaster! Everything else turns out great (and pretty)…but the sugar cookies always end up in the garbage..or the freezer where they sit for a couple of weeks and are eventually thrown away.

This year I planned ahead and bought all of the fancy, new gadgets Williams-Sonoma had to offer. In my mind, this guaranteed me professionally decoratedย  & delicious sugar cookies that would make all the Christmas bakers jealous. But (yet again) it was a let down. We made the dough a couple of days in advance, following the directions to a T. We baked them to perfection, and then – the decorating began. Everything was perfect up until the icing. I won’t go any further…

Looking back on December – I attended as many Bison football games as I could! My Saturdays were busy as the team did so well this year! There was plenty of pre-gaming & tail-gating, which involved lots of bloody mary’s and wings. It was fabulous. ๐Ÿ™‚

I didn’t follow the team to Texas – but we of course watched it on T.V. while on a wonderful family vacation! GO BISON! ๐Ÿ™‚
