a weekend at home…

Happy February everyone! I thought I would share some photos from a wonderful weekend at home! This winter has been so busy and full of lot’s of exciting events and opportunities. I was happy to have a weekend in with good friends and great conversation! Here are some highlights:

I made my regular trip to find the loveliest flowers to put around the house…stargazer lilies are one of my favorites! So vibrant and beautiful, and smell lovely!

Another February favorite – conversation hearts. LOVE, love, love them. Especially the white ones. 🙂

On a recent vaca I fell in love with these button down shirts by Frank & Eileen. I couldn’t find my size in the store so I was on a mission to find them online! After some searching, I found their website and ordered the one below!

I love tulips – so springy and fresh!

While working on a few invitation orders, one of my Jack Russels (Griffin) reminded me it was the weekend and I should take a break… 🙂

Saturday night I had some of my college girlfriends stay at our place. We used to get together more regularly, but as we get older – our schedules get busier, and trying to figure out a time to get together gets harder and harder. We decided to have a “girls night in” complete with sweat pants and a fondue dinner!

If you take a look below, our fondue party wasn’t a super success by any means. The recipe called for a dry white wine – well, being the red wine drinkers we are…there wasn’t a drop of white in the house. We decided to deviate from recipe and hoped red would suffice.  The result: our own homemade Nickelodean Gak!

The solution: running to the nearest grocery store to find the fondue “cheese” that I’ve walked by multiple times at Hornbachers. Unfortunately Hornbachers is a jaunt from our place, so I decided to stop by one of my least favorite grocery stores that was closer to our home – praying to the dinner party god’s that they had it. No luck…a quick call to the girls back at my place wondering what my next step should be. Unfortunately (for me) that advice was to head to Wal-Mart.

Blah. I avoid this place like the plague and was NOT looking forward to gracing it’s aisles with the beauty of my over-sized, Under Armour sweat pants on this fine Saturday evening. While contemplating making the drive to Hornbachers…I make the turn into Wal-Mart. I dash inside to find the fondue “cheese” all while dodging multiple angry teens who apparently were hanging out there for the evening. Next step – checking out. For some odd reason, the place was packed for a Saturday night at 8 p.m. I decide to go the self check out route as it seems most shoppers avoid these. No such luck – I eagerly waited my turn while all five self-checkouts were occupied by individuals who were in no hurry and could not for the life of them figure out what the hell they were doing. I guarded all five spots – waiting for the first one to open and trying my best to block all other shoppers from getting ahead of me. Finally – a check out opens and I fly towards like it like I’m in a foot race. I scan the item like a seasoned check out clerk, swipe my card and grab the receipt all while ignoring messages on the check out screen. I make my way out and some type of weird alarm goes off as I’m walking through the doors. Others were walking out at the same time…I wondered if I should turn around and look for the nearest employee to show them my receipt – I was a paying customer! Screw it, I thought – I’m tired and I want some damn fondue! I bee-line to my car – check my receipt to make sure I’m good in case the cops show up…and make the trek back home as fast as I can.

I arrive back home to the cheer of all of my girlfriends who had been eagerly awaiting my arrival. During my journey, all of this lovely food was waiting to be dipped into that cheesy goodness….

We made a chocolate fondue with Kahlua – yumm!

Spicy Caesars and red wine calmed my nerves once I got back to the comfort of home…

Caesars made with the one, the only – LINDSAY olives! 🙂

Our wonderful spread…

In the end, the dinner was a success…and the cops didn’t show up at my door. 🙂

We ended our evening by crooning over Ryan Gosling in “Drive”. We debated between that and watching Bridesmaids for the second time. We were happy with our decision….

And I’m considering this as the “perfect Valentine’s Day gift” for the hubby! 🙂

I ended a great weekend with watching the Grammys – curled up on the couch with my two favorite boys -Carter & Griffin (our  Jack Russels). We cheered on Adele and watched her amazing performance…about 3 times before I called it a night. Thank goodness for DVR’s! So glad she is back…

Enjoy your week!
